Der zu plattierende Artikel (das Arbeitsst\u00fcck) wird als Kathode (negative Elektrode) einer Elektrolysezelle verwendet, durch welche direkt Strom geleitet wird. Der Artikel wird in eine w\u00e4ssrige L\u00f6sung (das Bad) getaucht, die das entsprechende Metall in oxidierter Form entweder als aquates Kation oder komplexes Ion enth\u00e4lt. Die Anode ist normalerweise ein Barren des zur Plattierung eingesetzten Metalls. Eine Gestellmetallisierung bedeutet, dass die Werkst\u00fccke auf einem Gestell zur entsprechenden Plattierungsvor- und -nachbehandlung befestigt werden. Die fortlaufende Plattierung wird \u00fcblicherweise f\u00fcr Werkst\u00fccke mit einfacher, gleichm\u00e4\u00dfiger Geometrie, wie Metallstreifen oder Draht,
